This beautiful Japanese Satsuma Tea set was manufactured for export to the western world between 1913-1926. Satsuma Style but on porcelain has a decoration of a Kannon with two Rakans on each side of her. Displayed above the figures is the cross in circle 'mon' of the Shimazu family crest. This type of ware made use of moriage or raised enamels.
This wonderful example of the talents of the Japanese potters as artists. The set has a bronze background upon which are intricately hand painted panels. There is a raised decoration in the form of numerous white dots - many more than usual in this design type. They make up the flowers on trees, and design on the lady's kimono. Other elements include decorated gold bands and rosettes. The colour is vibrant throughout.
This is an amazing collectors set. Held to the light it is paper thin.
