Included in this auction are genuine Ojibwa head dress and accompanying headband. They were purchased from a native gift shop in the 1970s, in Manitoba. Please note the labelling pictured. Both pieces are in near perfect condition. The head dress has a few water droplet spots on top of the doeskin cap. Please note the intricate construction of the head dress. They are closely related to the Odawa and Algonquin peoples, and share many traditions with neighbouring Cree people, especially in the north and west of Ontario, and east of Manitoba. In their traditional homelands in the Eastern Woodlands , Ojibwa people became integral parts of the early fur trade economy. Ojibwa culture, language and activism have persisted despite assimilative efforts by federal and provincial governments, and in many cases are representative of the enduring 1st Nations presence in Canada.
